Sensory fun!

ROSE ROOM SENSORY FUN!

With the rain returning, I thought it might be fun to bring in my Kiddy Pool, and fill it with lots of colorful plastic balls for some indoor play. Before jumping in, we reviewed all the beautiful colors by name.

I added a few more large beach balls to the mix, and my friends were off...throwing, catching, climbing in and climbing out, excited to explore and experience!

In addition I made some fresh "cloud" sensory clay using apple-scented hair conditioner and corn starch. My friends loved smelling the clay and before long, friends were making ice creams and pizza with it. So much fun!

And lastly, I put out a large sensory bin filled with rice, pasta, beans and seeds. I included plenty of tubes and cups for measuring and pouring. Another stimulating morning with lots of smiles and energy!

Have a great week everyone!

Sensory experiences in new year 2017!

FUN! FUN! FUN! IN ROSE ROOM

What a great way to bring in the new year with fun, new sensory experiences and play! Today Rose Room friends had the opportunity to walk on a plastic sheet, but what made this extra fun was underneath the plastic was a huge poster board which we covered with blobs of colorful paint.

My friends touched, walked and jumped on top of the plastic to create a beautiful piece of art work! From there we moved onto our sensory "moon" bin which was a circle shape and filled with flour and jewels which represented little asteroids and rocks that caused craters on our moon.

My friends had so much fun! The final sensory bin was "moon sand" filled with little astronauts, tin bowls, spoons, and foil cups. If we're going to walk on the moon, why not play on the moon? What a fun-filled day with imaginations soaring!

A few other choices we had were drawing with wet chalk on black paper, and playing with kinetic sand. Enjoy your week!

Melting Ice Cubes!!

Teacher Rosemary brought in a really cool science project for our kids. We all got to melt big blocks of colored ice cubes with salt and water. The goal was to work really hard at trying to melt the cubes of ice to get to the treasure inside! At morning circle time, Teacher Rosemary explained to the kids what they were going to do.

The kids were very excited to see what she was doing and very enthusiastic about getting started on their own. S was so excited she even said "Wow teacher Rosemary, that is amazing. " Finally the kids got to jump in and start using their spoons to pour salt and water over the cubes of ice. The teachers even dove in to help the kids work hard to get their treasures :)

We found the treasures :)

And of course, we always love our sensory bins! This bin was filled with rice and toy dinosaurs.

Happy Holidays!

Holiday season is upon us and we have been talking about the weather changing. We read a story about snow and decided to make our own snowmen! We made the body out of cloud dough, then decorated the snowmen with pipe cleaners for arms, buttons, and a carrot for the nose :) Make sure you check out the kids' beautiful snowmen creations being displayed in our classroom.

Teacher Alicia showed the kids how to roll the cloud dough to form the bodies of the snowmen:

Time for the kids to try it out:

Making a Christmas tree ornament for our parents turned out so cute. The kids got to decorate a mini sweater with ribbon, jewels, bows, and much more. Then we got a picture of the kids and glued their faces to the top of the sweater and wrapped it all up! We hope all our families enjoy their ornaments for many years to come! We wish all our families a very happy and safe holiday season!

See you all next year!!
