Pumpkins! Yummy Pumpkin Bread!

Halloween is just around the corner and we have been hearing a lot lately about our families visiting the pumpkin patch. The kids come to school with great stories about the jumpy houses they jump around in, and all about the different kinds of pumpkins they see. We decided to paint a giant pumpkin that was drawn on paper. The kids had so much fun with the orange paint! Don't forget to stop and look at our finished product on the Rose Room window along with cute pictures of your kiddos :)

We made delicious pumpkin bread in Rose Room! During circle time, we read a story about pumpkins and it also talked about pumpkin pie! Our friends were very excited when they saw a picture of pumpkin pie, so we thought we should make some pumpkin bread :) Our friends did an excellent job taking turns pouring the mix into a bowl, pouring in the oil and water, and then stirring it all together. The kids definitely enjoyed some pumpkin bread after it was done baking in the oven.

Sensory Fun!

Today, Rose Room had the opportunity to explore colored sand, rice and oatmeal with their little hands. Along with the soft textures, little see-through metal boxes were displayed with surprises inside.

How did they get to the surprises inside? Opening and twisting is a great practice for their fine motor skills. Mixing and matching and opening and closing...and experimenting with the other objects placed in the sensory bin...Fun, fun, fun!!!!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Autumn in Rose Room: Sept 15

Fall is upon us and leaves are turning colors!

Our friends had lots of fun today as they explored sensory bins: one filled with yellow rice, little pumpkins, colorful fall leaves, gourds, etc. The other bin was filled with water beads of yellow, red, purple, and orange.

This fantastic sensory experience never gets old. Afterward, our friends had fun working on a collaborative art project. Two large poster boards were placed on the table where friends had the opportunity to experience drawing and smudging with colorful, soft chalk pastels. Once they were finished, Teacher Rosemary put dots of India ink on each poster, and children got to use a hair dryer as a tool to move the ink around.

The final step: small pieces of fall colored leaves were sprinkled down onto the paper, creating a beautiful "fall tree" effect.

Enjoy,
Teacher Rosemary
